10K Handicap

A really good evening of ideal conditions on Tuesday for the first Handicap of the Winter season.

There were many excellent performances among the thirty runners from the club. The Handicap times were set on the generous side but this probably helped in the producing of so many good times.

Four runners made their Handicap debuts, Amanda Postle, Rob Terry, Andy Marsden and Sean Ollier. A particular well done to them and hopefully they will be back for the next Handicap on November 6th.

Thanks go to Jo Southcott, Georgina Bestwick and Tim Hollings for their help on the night and also to Chris Jackson for compiling the results for the website.

Once again thanks to Steve Meath and his staff at the Devonshire who provided us with some lovely food which unfortunately was only enjoyed by a smaller number than usual.

BDL X-Country

The first x-country of the season takes place this Sunday October 14th starting at 11am from the Visitors Centre end of Shipley Park. The distance is approximately five miles and is within the capabilities of all our members. There should be no need for spikes, old trainers or any off-road shoes should be sufficient.

The following Saturday October 20th the first race in the North Midlands League commences at Markeaton Park Derby. There are separate races for men and women with the ladies race starting at 1.30 over a distance of 6k while the mens race starts at 1.55 over 10k.

Finally on a sad note, we have heard that one of our fellow runners, Darren Holloway from Ilkeston Running Club collapsed and died while running a Fell Race in the Lake District last Sunday.

Darren was a familiar face at our league races and had been a prominent figure within his club. There is more information on their website including some photographs.

On behalf of Belper Harriers we send our sympathies to his wife and family at this particular sad time.
