Below is a selection of the year round options we offer. All details are on the club calendar on the homepage so ALWAYS check that well in advance. As we get closer to the date an announcement will go out in the WhatsApp Community.
TUESDAY – WINTER OFFROAD
Throughout winter we offer weekly 630pm social runs, each one starting from a different local pub. These will all be in the club calendar but will NOT start from Belper Market Place.

There is only one group so we run at the pace of the slowest runner, regrouping regularly. If you fancy more of a challenging session, why not run to the start point and even back home after too. These runs are fun, but are nearly always muddy so offroad shoes are recommended. Headtorches are of course essential as indeed is some money to buy a drink in the pub after! If you are turning up to your first run as a non member, you must complete the New Runner Details first. Everyone is welcome to come along a for a few sessions before committing to membership. We aim to be friendly and inclusive. RECOMMENDED KIT TO CARRY – Armbands (โsnap onโ armbands are particularly useful in winter), Headtorches in winter on all routes. Money if it’s a pub run. Lightweight Pertex type Jacket especially on mid winter runs. Trail Shoes if it’s a winter 630 pub run
TUESDAY – WINTER CHIP COB RUNS
Approximately monthly in winter we offer whole club pub runs 7pm with food after (ยฃ5) normally a chip cob from a selection of cosy local pubs. We aim to offer 3 runs (leader dependent) and these are often all offroad ranging from slower to faster typically 4-7 miles.

Importantly, it’s a nice chance to focus less on pace, but more on catching up with club friends or making new ones. We normally find lovely cosy pubs with roaring local fires and as mentioned we organise chip cobs for post run.
TUESDAY – WINTER ROAD RUNS
Our Tuesday runs are the backbone of our club training. Our meet point is now at The Market Place, Belper at 7pm, parking available in the Coppice Car Park. All the Tuesday groups are inclusive and social, with an emphasis on running as a group. Many runners find these sessions most beneficial ran at an easy social pace, and we always ensure nobody is left behind. The group leaders and the specific distance and pace of each group is confirmed in advance via a WhatsApp Community Announcement, but as a general guide, this is how it might look for a winter road training run:
9miles@7:30min/mile
8miles:8:30min/mile
7miles@9:30min/mile
6miles@10min/mile
5miles@11-12min/mile
When it’s light enough (Apr-Sept ish), we run off-road on the trails around Belper and throughout the winter we run on road. All the groups are a bit shorter and slower when we’re off-road. All runners at any of our sessions are asked to complete their New Runner Details first.
Everyone is welcome to come along a for a few sessions before committing to membership. If you fancy turning up just say hello to somebody on the night and we’ll help ensure you’re in the right group. We typically get around 40 runners on a Tuesday night, across all abilities.
TUESDAY – SUMMER HANDICAP
Approximately monthly in the summer, we enjoy our timed club handicap starting and finishing at the Bluebell in Farnah Green. The idea being we have staggered start times from 7pm through to about 740pm, slowest first, fastest last aiming to all finish at the same time. Most improved is the winner! Mandatory drink in or outside the pub after too. No dogs allowed sorry. All runners at any of our sessions are asked to complete their New Runner Details first.

It’s a 4.4 mile mix of quiet roads and footpaths with one steep climb up Sunny Hill. We can see here that the 4.4 mile route starts and finishes at the Bluebell. All on very quiet roads and paths. Starting down the hill, turn sharp right along Chevin road all the way to Milford. Half way up Sunny Hill, left down Wood Lane and out onto the Golf Course. Across the footpath all the way through the farm at Spring Hollow / Firestone. Up the hill and along to the Bluebell to finish.
TUESDAY – SUMMER LEAGUE RACES
Approximately monthly in summer we attend the local free summer league races at 7pm. With up to 400 runners from local clubs, they’re a great free local resource for us. All you need is a club vest and that’s it! Get there early enough and we’ll record your time and position for you. Individual and team prizes. All the info on these summer league races (and our winter league races on Sundays) can be found here. You must be a paid up member to attend these.
TUESDAY – SUMMER OFFROAD RUNS
Whenever we are not league racing or handicapping in Summer we base all our 7pm group runs from the Market Place in Central Belper. Similar to winter we offer a range of distances and paces to suit most. Exact distances and routes will be announced beforehand in the WhatsApp community. Parking available in the Coppice Car Park.
THURSDAY – SPEED SESSIONS
Our year round 630pm Thursday speed sessions focus on speed and improvement and move between several venues around Belper. Although they’re called “Speed” you DO NOT need to be fast to turn up! After a short warm up, we will split into small groups on a structured session. The calendar is up to date with all Thursday venues too – they change each week as each venue has a slightly different focus. Another benefit of this session is we are normally done by around 720pm. All runners at any of our sessions are asked to complete their New Runner Details first. In winter, headtorches and illuminated kit is essential as we run on roads which will see other traffic.
THURSDAY – ILKESTON TRACK
On the first Thursday of each month at 7pm we meet trackside at Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston, Cost ยฃ2 (bring cash please). After a short warm up, we will split into small groups for a structured session, complete by 8pm. All runners at any of our sessions are asked to complete their New Runner Details first. If you’ve not been before, perhaps post to ask for a lift share on the Community so you can be guided through by someone else.

All of the routes we will be running are available in the tables below. The Announcement in the WhatsApp Community advises which route will be offered.
