To get hold of any of us who run the club, it’s normally easier just to grab us on a run!

Who’s Who

Dave Horton, Club Chair. Dave’s a self confessed racer (and an uber competitive one too!). He’s just as comfortable on Road as well as Fell and has recently returned to Ultra distance

Jo Coates, Membership. Jo is very often found running long and high on her favourite lake district trails. She’s also a super keen endurance swimmer too.

Helen Morley, Club Secretary. Helen is our marathon specialist and can often be seen smashing those miles out as she runs through Belper.

Ruth Keeley, Ladies Captain. Ruth is happiest when running up in the fells of the Peak District. She’s often picking up prizes at local fell races and league races.

Marcel Darling, Men’s Captain. There’s only two places where you’ll find Marcel – either on the fells (Peaks, Lakes) or in the pub socialising after a race or training session.

Alan Billington, Treasurer, Web, Club Kit, Pub Run Coordinator. Alan’s a passionate fell runner who’s regularly arm twisting new members into finding out how good racing off road can be. Also partial to a social pint. Or so. Alan also runs our “Navigation for Runners” course on dark winter evenings.

Sarah Jackson, Safeguarding. Sarah is happiest when she’s running the trails of the British Isles often racing in interesting locations. More offroad than on, she just loves competing in trail races with friends.

Pete Baker, Tuesday coordinator. Although originally from a marathon background his recent interest in the fells has seen him compete in several lake district ultras. Regular at league races summer and winter.

Sharon Kelby, Tuesday Welcomer. Sharon is invaluable for Tuesday night support – making all feel welcome as well as often leading group 5.

Malcolm Weir, Legend & Thursday lead. Malc has been there for most of us in the club over many, many years. He’s still leading the UK rankings for his age and continues to put us all through our paces on Thursday evening sessions.

Richard Hickling, Club Vests & Fell Series organiser. If Rich isn’t encouraging you to enter the upcoming fell races, then he’ll be offering to do some decorating for you ! He told me it was mud on his face here, but he was probably painting a ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I just turn up?

Of course! No need to join, just look at the calendar and get there nice n early. In winter bring a torch. If you’re feeling more nervous, drop a note on the contact form below or drop a “Hello” type post on the Facebook group.

How do I know where to turn up?

The calendar on the homepage is always up to date. You can install the calendar on your phone too if you’re really keen. We do change venue often so always check the calendar to see what’s on that week.

Do I need to join straight away?

No. Please come along for a few weeks to see if we’re the right club for you first. Our membership year backs onto England Athletics and is April to March, but you’ll see on the Join page that if you join in January you can get 3 months free as a new member.

Do I need to bring anything special?

No. In winter wear high viz and bring a torch. If attending a league race you will need a club vest from the club shop. If running offroad, consider the weather and grip you may need.

What do I do when I arrive?

Say hello to someone and tell them you’re new. They’ll quickly make sure you’re looked after and in the right place.

Will I be fast enough?

We will always ensure everyone is looked after. Our regular Tuesday Club Runs are arranged into pace / distance so you can choose on the night. Other runs will also consider all paces – there’s very few if any runs where you need to worry about being too slow.

How do I join?

You’ll see a join option on the main menu. You can also transfer to us from another club and you can join us second claim only if you are England Athletics affiliated via another club.

What is the minimum age to join?

18 years
