Well, we did it again…quite literally we bought a bus-load of Belpers finest running talent to the second BDL race of the summer series. Despite the rain, 36 Harriers rocked up to Ilkeston to give it their best. Numbers were only slightly down on the first race at Teversal with 363 running the fast, flat course. This is the second best turnout ever for a BDL race.
Great to see Nathan F and Sarah again after their first ever BDL last month, obviously addicted to the buzz these race can give you. Not to mention a plethora of newbies running a BDL for the first time – Lizzy, Ruby, Danielle, Elaine, Kelly, Anne and Sharon. Indeed Ruby and Kelly’s first ever run for the Harriers..I believe. Our Chairman and Vest courier Alan having hand-delivered the vests earlier in the week….what a service eh!
Laura and James running their first ever Summer BDL, having had a go with the winter xc earlier in the season.
The course consisted of a 5.2 mile ‘out and back’ route with a bit of a loop at the far end. Like many, i’m sure, I started off at max and got scared every time I looked at my watch…crikey didn’t know I could go that fast….that didn’t last as i picked up an injury and walked/shuffled the last 2 miles.
The first seven men i.e. the’ counters’ towards the points were (in order) Ed (9th), Tom (14th), Alex (16), Chairman Alan (33rd), Chris J (41st), Krish (54th) and James (56th)…brilliant chaps. Close on their heals – Dave H (58th), Saul (59th), Nathan F (79th), Rob N (91st), Simon E (92nd), Malc (95th), Andy Naylor (118th), Nick (119th), Mark R (127th), Andy L (130th), Bradders (181st), Tim (193rd), Simon H (201st) and Andy Nash (327th).
Great running and stand out performances by Chris J, Krish, Malc and Andy Naylor. Loads of placing PBs and brilliant performances saw the fellas finishing 4th out of 12 teams.
Our first 3 ladies (the ‘counters’) were Ruth (99th – 5th lady in the race!), Meg (210th) and Lizzy (215th). Lizzy running her first BDL and Meg and Ruth continuing to improve…which can only be put down to Alan’s hill bashing sessions, no doubt.
Ruby missing out on a ‘counter’ place by one position in 216th – brilliant for a first appearance for the club. Next Sarah (220th), Cpt Rach (241st), Rosemary ‘i’ve got more silverware’ (243rd), Helen (253rd), Danielle (277th), Elaine (286th), Laura (304th), Clare (311th), Kelly (350th), Anne (360th) and Sharon (361st).
Great work by the ladies saw 8th position and combined team effort was 6th at this race.
After 2 races this equates to Men (4th), Ladies (6th) and Team (4th)….nice start to the series.
Presentations afterwards saw Krish and Rosemary pick up silverware for placings in their particular categories…well done guys.
The next race is our own at Denby, so given the help needed to marsall and run the race we’d like loads of Harriers to turn up and do their bit on and off the course to build on this great start.
Can we get 40+ runners at the two further races at Carsington and Shipley Park in July and August….yes we can!!
