Mark Beighton Farewell drinks 21st September, White Hart Bargate 730pm

Mark looking strong, come and see him one final time.
Mark has just retired and at the end of September is setting off on a bike ride … a very long bike ride! He’s sold his house so he’s serious about it. Come along and share a beer with him in wishing him Bon Voyage! All welcome and it straight after the Sandbed Rec 630pm session too.
Totley Exterminator – Race Reports x 2
Six Harriers completed the Exterminator fell race hosted by Totley AC on Sunday 4th September. The challenging route was a great test of stamina and navigational skills, across 17 miles of undulating terrain with 3550ft of elevation.
It took in some fantastic landmarks and views across Totley Moor, Burbage Moor, Stanage Edge, Padley Gorge and the Longshaw Estate.
Battling through the 27oC heat were some great results for Ash Flint, Richard Green, Andy Paisley, Paul Brunt, Joanne Howett and Richard Hickling, earning some well earnt points in the Harriers Fell Champs.
As the penultimate race in the series, there is still one more chance to get some points at the Groovy Kinder Love Race on 16th September at Hayfield.

Exterminator Fell Race. Gosh that was a hard day at the office. Really affected by the heat (worst I’ve been in years) but I think we all struggled with the conditions. I also lost my timing chip, for the record Richard Hickling I finished 41st (3:24 to 3:27) as I know the woman just in front of me. Annoyingly the results show me as 51st as some kind runner found my timing chip and carried it over the line
Richard Green.

Paul, Ashley, Jo, Rich, Rich and Andy all smiles before the race
The fell series results are fully up to date now. It’s going to come down to the last race!!!
Wilne 10k Race Report
The Wilne 10K is a very fast road race through some quite pleasant countryside, and one of the events in this year’s Harriers Club Championships. Being such a rapid route, it attracts some top class runners.
The top 6 finishers had all travelled some distance to compete, producing a winning time of 29:51. A very light breeze was welcome, as it took the edge off the steadily rising temperature, and a little tree cover provided some shade.
My race started well, and I was comfortably sitting on the heels of the 4min/k pacer, but an enforced ‘comfort’ stop at 4.5 km (schoolboy error!) meant I lost him, and the effort trying to bridge the gap took the edge off my performance. By the end, I’d dropped 82 secs behind.
The other four Harriers ran a much better race; Margret Mason produced a superb 44:47, and Andy Young and David Bains were both well under 38 minutes. Ben Godwood’s 42:58 completed the Harriers results list. I must mention Andy’s son, who ran with him, and pipped him to the finish line. Great runs by all on a hot morning.
The results of the club championships will be revealed at the awards night later in the year, and there’s still opportunities to win points from the remaining races. See Club champs for details.
