Club News : AGM, Vacancies & *New* Members Representatives

Hi Harriers

Our AGM is scheduled to take place next week. On Tuesday 4th Feb 2025, our runs will start at 6:30pm, and afterwards we all retire to The Grapes for post-run refreshments. The AGM starts at 7:30pm, with some splendid food laid on at 8:30pm. Beer will be a bargain £2.90/pint! What’s not to like!

We encourage ALL Harriers to attend, as it’s your opportunity to have a direct involvement in the running of our club. Even if you’re not running that night, please come along.

VACANCIES

After a number of years as Chair (and previously Men’s Captain), I’ll be stepping down, along with Helen, who’s been the secretary for a very long time, and club captains Ruth and Marcel. None of us will be going away, but it’s time for others to step up and take the club forward.

It’s vital that these positions on the committee are filled for the future smooth running of the club. We have the organizational side very well structured, so none of the roles are very time-consuming, and you certainly don’t need prior experience. We’ll still be around to provide guidance, if you need it, but ideally we’ll be able to step back and leave you to run the club with your own vision, for the benefit of its members. The role descriptions can be found on the Harriers website next to each role on the Contact / Who’s Who page, along with details of all the current committee members. Please contact any of us if you have any questions, or would like to notify us in advance of the AGM that you’ll be standing for any of the roles. In fact, it’ll make my evening far easier if I know who’s standing in advance. All appointments are for a year, so don’t worry that you’ll be committed long-term.

** NEW ** MEMBERS REPRESENTATIVES

We are very lucky in the club in that we have a good proportion of us who run regularly – regulars if you like. What we’re not so good at at the minute is listening to ideas from the membership, discussing those ideas and acting accordingly as a committee. That’s why we’d like to now introduce the ability to become a Members Representative. This applies to all members if you’re a regular or simply if you would like to hear or have a say in what the club does. No big commitment, the odd meet up in a pub and organised via the new (locked down) WhatsApp group.  IMPORTANT – We want to get a range of views so if you like road running, off road running or just going to the pub please get involved. These are not formal or committee posts, aiming to be very informal but encourage discussion.

AND TO CLOSE…

I’ve had a lovely time since taking over from Claire Cooper, seeing the club through lockdown and out the other side, and witnessing the gradual evolution of the Harriers into the club it is now. It’s been extremely rewarding and enjoyable, but I’ll enjoy seeing how others take things forward.

See you all on the 4th.

Cheers,

David Horton
