Derwent River Relays

Two months until our relays!!  I hope you have all got the date etched upon your brains or at least in your diaries, the day booked off and are able to come along and help support our event?

This year, it is rather crucial that the event is a successful one, to sustain its longevity for the next few years. Last year saw a particularly poor turn out of teams, which some what changed the atmosphere of the day, that we have known in the past. Locally the race diary is now saturated, runners have the luxury of being able to pick and choose their races. Our Derwent River Relays this year needs to be fabulous, so that every competitor leaves the event in high spirits, wanting to return next year and bring new running friends along – enabling our event to continue.

We have an ideal location to make the Relays a great summer afternoon out.  It would be great, if this year, we could increase the number of  ‘non’ running club entries, by welcoming local groups from our work places and local communities. We naturally still want to encourage our loyal club runners but one way to increase our numbers is to promote this as a  family friendly event, where novice runners can compete, socialise and have a ‘grand day out!’ Our intention is to organise a few stalls and food provisions to add interest. If you know of anyone who may be interested – please get them to contact me (Theresa 07910 246 006) We would also like to give out some spot prizes, so suitable items kindly donated would be most welcome or if you shop somewhere regularly and could ask for a donation – their business would be advertised.

Please find attached our poster, if you could print some copies off and distribute them within your work place, local community or a social group that you may attend. If you could also possibly promote the event verbally, as much as possible, we should  increase our chances of more entries. We’ve got 2 months to really promote our event  – we are a fabulous group with a great many skills and talents amongst us  – let’s make this a day that we can be proud of and love.
