Thanks for Denby
Just a brief thanks to everyone who was involved in the Booth Decorators Road Race at Denby.
With just about a perfect evening for the runners, helpers and spectators the race started on time even though the Belper Harriers race once again managed to have a minor problem. At approximately 7.20pm a heavy lorry turned left onto the road and drove towards the start area of the race where all the runners were preparing for the race.
It could only happen to us, his Satnav had given him the wrong turning, he should have gone further up the A6179 and turned next left. Anyway he waited until the race had started before continuing his journey.
From the feedback so far it seems the evening went well and thanks must go out to Denby Pottery for the use of the car park and toilets. The coffee shop did stay open for runners use this year before the race which we must also thank them for. Thanks also to Deb Group for being so supportive and also to the construction workers from the building site. Many thanks also to Rob Rainsford for taking on the role of Race Adjudicator and to St Johns Ambulance for their attendance.
There were 318 finishers with 35 runners from Belper Harriers with just our Rob Terry having the misfortune of having to drop out with hopefully just a minor injury.
The members of the club rallied round to help with friends, family members and a number of our members taking on roles as marshals, timekeepers, manning the water stations etc rather than running.
The course itself was the best it has been for many years but it still needed a number of hours gardening time. Thanks also to the guys who gave up their precious time to do this work.
I will just have to make a special mention to Dave, Pete and Geoff who all did a tremendous job in many ways and for their input of ideas in making both the course and logistics safe for the runners.
The race itself would have been pretty grim without the runners and thanks to all the Harriers and the runners from the other clubs which helped to make another successful BDL race.
Leisure Centre
The next two Tuesday evenings we will be at the Belper Leisure Centre, leaving at 7.30pm.
On the calendar we should be having a Special on June 23rd organised by Rob Pearce, this has now be rearranged for the following Tuesday June 30th.
Derwent River Relays
We now move on to our next event the Relays on Saturday July 4th. Theresa will be coordinating this event and will be needing your help and support. Theresa will be putting a post out regarding a meeting to update and rally support for the event.
